Corneal Neovascularization

Corneal neovascularization occurs when blood vessels grow into the cornea due to insufficient oxygen, often as a result of prolonged contact lens wear. Symptoms include redness around the cornea, eye pain, light sensitivity, and discomfort while wearing contact lenses, even for short periods.

If untreated, this condition can lead to permanent intolerance to contact lenses and even vision loss. To address corneal neovascularization, patients are often fitted with lenses made from materials that allow for higher oxygen transmissibility.
